I love seeing so many people using their ingenuity and resourcefulness by making things come together to create a garden, no matter how limited they are in space.
I am especially intrigued how people over the last 20-30 years have taken advantage of making rooftop gardens and green/living walls.
All types - rustic, elaborate, large and small.
I believe it’s in our DNA to want to grow things, whether it be for nourishment or just to admire a favorite flower, plant or tree.

History:
The first recorded rooftop gardens were atop the ziggurats of ancient Mesopotamia dating back between 4,000-600BC.

The renewed popularity rooftop gardens and green walls surfaced main stream with the displays by French Botanist Patrick Blanc and Engineer Peter Rice at the Cite des Sciences et de I’Industria in 1986 and at Musee de quai Branly.

By utilizing these innovative spaces - roof tops and vertical walls, so many people can enjoy gardening that didn’t have space for a traditional in the ground horizontal garden.

Do Butterflies like Lantana?
Yes butterflies, bees and hummingbirds all like the sweet nectar of Lantanas. Lantanas are a species of the Verbena family and are native to tropical regions where they thrive in hot, humid and sunny locations.

Interesting Facts:
Black Throated and Streak Weaverbirds use the flowers for decorating their nests.
Butterflies that are drawn to Lantana flowers are particularly noteworthy -
Swallowtail and Bird-wing butterflies. Skippers and certain Brush-footed butterflies as well as some Pieridae also like to visit the plants’ flowers which make Lantana a perfect plant for a Butterfly garden.
